Tesla will showcase Cybertruck and Optimus Gen 2 in China

Tesla will showcase its all-electric pickup, the Cybertruck, and Optimus Gen 2, its humanoid robot, at the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, China, later this week.

The conference is set to begin on July 4, and it will showcase some of the biggest brands in the world and their best products. Tesla has been bringing its Cybertruck around the world for fans and consumers to see, and the automaker is continuing the trend as it is one of the most hyped products in its lineup.

However, it is also bringing the second-generation version of Optimus to the conference, hoping to potentially show off its capabilities and give people a look at what it is working on in terms of robotics and artificial intelligence, according to the event’s website.

Tesla Cybertruck

The Cybertruck has been a marvel of Tesla’s engineering prowess and has so far been an example of both the growing pains of a new product and an unorthodox vehicle that has taken many by storm.

It has quickly become an ideal vehicle choice for celebrities, who have been quick to show off their new ride. Everyone from Pharell to Lamar Jackson has shown off their Cybertrucks since deliveries began last year.

Hoping to eventually be released in other markets, Tesla’s Cybertruck reached a production run rate of 1,000 units per week in April, and the automaker continues to make deliveries as it recently rolled out a new interior option, which is being given to customers as of yesterday.

Optimus Gen 2

Tesla’s Optimus Gen 2 will also make an appearance at the conference, and it has been a major development of the company’s tech lately.

Just a month ago, Tesla said it had started deploying two Optimus bots in its Giga Texas plant, performing tasks autonomously.

The tasks it was responsible for included sorting battery cells and other simple things. Tesla said it would be able to eliminate monotonous work that is boring to humans when its first-generation robot was unveiled.

In January, CEO Elon Musk showed a video of Optimus walking unassisted.

Tesla Model X flexes strength by tanking frightening freak accident

A Model X owner is thanking Tesla’s focus on safety after he experienced a frightening freak accident involving a tool falling 10 stories down and straight into his all-electric SUV.

A photo of the incident’s aftermath was shared by Belong Founder and CEO Ale Resnik, who noted that he was driving at Coral Gables, Florida when the accident happened. As per the executive, a stone chisel accidentally fell out of a construction worker’s hand and fell 10 stories down.

In what could only be a frightening experience, the stone chisel hit what appeared to be the roof of the Tesla Model X. Resnik noted that the tool actually fell exactly where his child’s car seat was, so things could have gone terribly if the Model X’s roof did not hold up. Thankfully, the all-electric SUV weathered the impact and the cabin remained safe.

The incident caught quite a lot of attention on social media, with Tesla’s official X handle noting that it was fortunate nobody was injured. Others praised Tesla for the company’s intense focus on safety, while critics argued that any vehicle in production today would have protected the cabin just the same. Resnik, for his part, is just thankful that no one was hurt due to the accident.

Interestingly enough, Resnik also noted that just 15 minutes after the incident, he already had an appointment with a Tesla Shop and a quote for his Model X’s repair. Granted, the repair for such damage would likely be substantial, but any expense is worth it considering that the vehicle was able to protect the car’s occupants.

While Tesla receives a lot of criticism, it is undeniable that the company’s vehicles are among the safest on the road today. Elon Musk highlighted this as much during the 2024 Annual Shareholder Meeting, where he noted that while Tesla’s main mission is sustainability, the company is also dead serious about ensuring that its vehicles are as safe as possible.

“While sustainability is our mission, we also have the goal of safety. Our cars are engineered to be some of the safest in the world and we take real-world data from our fleet, and our ability to push over-the-air updates to optimize safety for all our vehicle models,” Musk said.

Tesla to benefit from Trump presidency, claims Wedbush analyst

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives recently shared a rather interesting prediction for Tesla. As per the analyst, a potential Trump presidency would actually be bullish for Tesla, even if it would be negative for everyone else in the electric vehicle sector.

Ives’ comments were shared during a segment in CNBC’s Last Call. Amidst his current campaign, former President Donald Trump has so far been against electric vehicles for the most part. Despite this, he has also stated that he is “a fan of Elon.” “I like Elon, I like him, and I think a lot of people are going to want to buy an electric car,” Trump said at a rally earlier this month.

Elon Musk confirmed this as much, even stating that the former president was “very nice” and he does call him “out of the blue for no reason.” Musk inferred that Trump’s positive stance on Tesla may be partly due to the fact that some of the former president’s friends probably now have Teslas. He also noted that Trump is “a huge fan of the Cybertruck.”

Considering Trump’s typical anti-EV rhetoric, it was no surprise that the Wedbush analyst was asked if the former president’s potential efforts to roll back electric vehicle incentives could benefit Tesla. Ives noted that a Trump presidency would indeed be positive for Tesla.

“I’d say Trump’s pro-Musk, and I’d say it’s bullish. A Trump presidency would, at the end of the day, be bullish for Tesla, negative for EVs… I think it also speaks to the Biden administration, Musk has really been an afterthought… I think if Trump’s in the White House, Musk gets more front and center. That’s bullish for Tesla, especially if you start to see those EV rebates roll back — negative on the industry, bullish for Tesla,” Ives said.

The Wedbush analyst has a great point. The Biden administration has made it a point to ignore Tesla and focus on union-made EVs instead, so it would not be surprising if a potential Trump administration made it a point to openly support Musk and Tesla. Tesla is also among the carmakers in the United States today that can compete without the federal tax credit, as the company has already achieved economies of scale.
