Tesla has begun the soft rollout of its “Holiday Software Update” following CEO Elon Musk’s announcement that owners would be receiving a sneak preview of Full-Self Driving, among “other things.”
Model 3 owner and YouTuber Tesla Raj gives us our very first look at software version 2019.40.50 in action, which includes vastly improved Driving Visualizations, a more robust Tesla Theater, Camp Mode, Voice Commands, and Phone Improvements with text messaging support.
“You can now read and respond to text messages… When a message is received press the right scroll wheel button to have your text message read out loud and press again to respond by speaking out loud,” reads the release notes for the latest over-the-air update.
The latest 2019.40.50 firmware gives Tesla owners with Autopilot Hardware 3 a preview of its upcoming Full-Self driving capabilities, showcasing an increasingly more intelligent Tesla Neural Net that’s able to identify and display multiple traffic lights, stop signs, and even garbage cans on the vehicle’s touchscreen. The ability to render road markings and vehicle types, in detail, on-screen paves the way for Tesla’s upcoming “feature complete” Full-Self Driving suite.
Tesla’s Holiday Software Update also includes more advanced voice commands with the ability to launch vehicle applications completely hands-free. “Voice commands have been rebuilt to understand natural language. For this initial release, we focused on commands that minimize having to touch the screen so you can keep your eyes on the road,” reads the Release Notes for version 2019.40.50, along with the list of new voice commands.
In addition to new games like Stardew Valley and Backgammon being introduced in the lastest over-the-air update, the roster in Tesla Theater also improves with the addition of video game streaming platform Twitch.
A big thanks to Tesla Raj for sharing with Teslarati this fantastic first look at Tesla’s holiday software update, which we’ve embedded below.
