Edmunds praises Tesla Model 3 Performance for its insane value

Automotive resource company Edmunds has published its full rating results of the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Performance. As per the firm, the Model 3 Performance offers stunning capabilites that are generally available only on vehicles that are several times its price.

As noted by Edmunds, the Model 3 has become so commonplace now that it is almost hard to stand out. Fortunately for the new Model 3 Performance, its sleek styling and unique interior puts it a cut above the other trims of the all-electric sedan. However, as per the publication, the improvements in the new Model 3 Performance are not just skin-deep.

Edmunds praised the Model 3 Performance for a number of things, with the company giving the vehicle a score of 9 on Performance, a 10 on Acceleration, an 8 on Braking, an 8.5 on Steering, Handling, Comfort, and Seat Comfort, and a 9 on Cabin Noise and Vibration and Visibility, among others.

But beyond the Model 3 Performance’s impressive capabilities, its price is also something that truly makes it special. At a price of $54,990 before incentives, after all, there are simply very few cars that can provide the same value as the new Tesla Model 3 Performance. In a lot of ways, the vehicle is simply a bargain, even without any incentives.

“Everything else that we’ve tested that goes from 0 to 60 in that time costs at least double… The amount of performance you’re getting in this sedan is astonishing. To match this level of pure speed and acceleration would cost you well into the six figures, unless you want to jump up a class in size and go for a Model S Performance. The latest Model 3 also has a nicely trimmed cabin. Our test car had no build quality issues.

“The Model 3 Performance is incredibly quick. But we’re just as impressed with what else it offers. There’s more than 300 miles of Edmunds Tested range, a quiet cabin, and nimble handling that doesn’t come at the expense of ride comfort. The Performance still suffers from some quirks that all Model 3s have but overall it’s a heck of a deal,” Edmunds noted

Tesla launches Powertrain Endurance for Track Mode V3

Tesla’s software update 2024.38.4 saw the electric vehicle maker launching a new feature to further improve Track Mode V3. As per reports from the electric vehicle community, Track Mode V3 has now been improved with Powertrain Endurance, a novel function that is expected to enable vehicles to achieve optimum performance over longer periods of time.

Track Mode’s first iteration was launched way back in 2018, and it proved that Teslas are also pretty capable on the track. Despite the sophisticated nature of Track Mode, however, Teslas are battery electric cars, so they still tend to throttle their performance when temperatures rise due to spirited driving.

It was then no surprise that Tesla has done what it can to further refine Track Mode to be more capable over the years. As per screenshots shared by the EV community on social media, Powertrain Endurance allows owners to select options to tune their vehicle’s track driving performance. This way, drivers could optimize their car depending on their track sessions.

As noted in a report from Tesla software tracker Not a Tesla App, Powertrain Endurance comes with three options: Standard, Increased, and Maximum. Under the Standard setting, vehicles prioritize peak output, though thermal limits are hit quickly. The Increased setting balances peak output over multiple laps, and the Maximum setting lowers peak output for extended track sessions.

Tesla describes Powertrain Endurance as follows:

Maximize performance for your driving distal by limiting power as speed increases to improve thermal management.

Standard – Fastest initial lap times, but performance may be thermally limited more quickly.

Increased – Steadier performance over multiple laps, ideal for intermediate driving lengths.

Maximum – Slower initial lap times but offers more consistent performance or longer distances.

Powertrain Endurance would likely be well appreciated by Tesla owners, especially those who take their vehicles to locations like the Nurburgring in Germany. Videos of Teslas in the past show that vehicles like the Model 3 Performance can only do a single lap around the 12.94-mile track before throttling power. But with Powertrain Endurance, perhaps multiple laps around the Nurburgring in a Tesla may soon be possible.

Tesla China sees 10,500 new vehicle registrations in Q4’s fourth week

Tesla China saw 10,500 new vehicle registrations in the week of October 21-27, 2024. This represents a decrease of 20.45% from the 13,200 registrations that the electric vehicle maker saw in China in the week ending October 20.

Tesla does not report its weekly sales figures in China, though a general idea of the company’s performance in the country’s domestic auto market can be inferred through new vehicle registration data. Fortunately, new car registrations are closely tracked and reported by industry watchers, as well as some automakers like Li Auto.

And as per Li Auto’s recent data, Tesla China saw 10,500 new vehicle registrations for the week ending October 27, 2024. With these results in mind, industry watchers note that Tesla China’s domestic registrations are up 6.5% compared to its 2023 figures. This is quite impressive considering that until the third quarter of 2024, Tesla China’s domestic vehicle registrations were lagging behind 2023’s numbers.

Tesla China’s domestic sales have been showing some strength in recent months. In September, Tesla sold 72,200 vehicles in the country’s domestic market—a year-to-date high—as per data shared by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Tesla China also exported 16,121 vehicles to foreign territories in September.

Tesla China has been pretty assertive with its efforts to sell as many vehicles as possible to local customers. Just recently, the electric vehicle maker extended its five-year, zero percent interest loan program in China until the end of November. Considering that the program was initially rolled out way back in April, it would not be surprising if Tesla China ends up extending its five-year zero percent interest loan program until the end of the year.
