Tesla reshapes LiveOne availability as amended agreement takes place

Tesla is reshaping the availability of LiveOne, a service powered by Slacker, as the company announced an amended agreement with the automaker.

LiveOne is a streaming platform that is integrated into Tesla vehicles and houses Slacker, a popular radio option for owners.

However, the company announced today that it has an amended partnership with Tesla, which takes effect today. It listed six key highlights:

1. Effective Oct 1, 2024: Tesla replaces streaming button with LiveOne’s in perpetuity
2. LiveOne 2.0 launches, providing subscribers access to music on all devices
3. 1.9 million subscribers can convert to Premium/Plus services
4. Potential 3x increase in Average Revenue Per User (ARPU)
5. As of Dec 1, 2024, Tesla will no longer subsidize LiveOne products to some of its customers, however, LiveOne will offer all Tesla customers discounted LiveOne music packages
6. Tesla will continue to pay LiveOne monthly for grandfathered users in perpetuity

Teslarati reader sent us this message from Tesla, which communicated with owners that things would be changing with LiveOne and the Premium Connectivity subscription:

“Starting December 1, 2024, your LiveOne powered by Slacker Radio account will no longer be included with your Premium Connectivity subscription. If you’d like to listen to LiveOne’s curated stations in your Tesla and on your other devices beyond this date, you can subscribe by following the next steps:

    1. Open the LiveOne app, previously the Streaming app, from the bottom bar (requires software version 2024.32.4 or later)
    2. Tap on the Account tab
    3. Scan the QR code and update the account information

Your Premium Connectivity subscription allows you to stream music, podcasts and audiobooks from your favorite media apps. Tap the icon of your preferred app on your vehicle’s touchscreen and log in to your account. “

LiveOne CEO Robert Ellin also commented on the amended partnership, stating that this conversion has “enormous upside” and will help with discounted priority pricing:

“The conversion opportunity has enormous upside by offering Tesla owners an opportunity to upgrade and have access on all devices at discounted priority pricing. We’ll drive growth, unlock new revenue streams, own our data, and increase ARPU. To be conservative, due to the timing of our conversion rate, we are adjusting FY2025 revenue guidance to $120M – $135M and $8-15M adjusted EBITDA.”

LiveOne shares have dropped over 25 percent on the news.

Tesla overtakes Volvo in Sweden in September: report

Tesla’s aggressive sales tactics in Sweden seem to be bearing fruit. As per recent reports, Tesla has overtaken Volvo in September, effectively becoming the largest car brand in the country for the month. This was thanks in part to a zero-interest financing program that Tesla introduced at the start of September.

As noted in a CarUp report, new car sales in Sweden are actually in a decline. Despite this trend, figures from Swedish car database Car.info have suggested that Tesla has been swimming against the current, with the company registering 3,800 cars in September. These results represent a 12% increase year-over-year, and with a few days to spare.

The figures from Car.info suggest that Tesla has become Sweden’s largest car brand in September. For context, Volvo, saw 3,138 registrations in the same period. It should also be noted, however, that the veteran Swedish automaker still exceeds Tesla’s overall sales for the third quarter.

A notable contributor to Tesla’s strong sales in Sweden seems to be the company’s zero-interest program, which was launched in September. With the program in place, customers could see savings in their monthly payments. This makes Teslas very attractive, affordable, and well within reach of mainstream car buyers.

Tesla’s September registrations speak for themselves. As per CarUp, Tesla has registered 3,206 Model Y units in Sweden with a few days to spare in September. The Model Y is one of the vehicles that are covered by Tesla Sweden’s zero-interest program. The next-best-selling vehicle in Sweden is the Volvo XC60, which saw 1,026 registrations in the same period.

Tesla’s performance in Sweden is especially impressive considering that the company is still dealing with an ongoing strike from trade union IF Metall, as well as sympathy strikes from other unions. Despite the strikes, the Tesla Model Y still became Sweden’s most-registered vehicle in the first six months of 2024.

Tesla rolls out Cybertruck FSD with V12.5.5 update

The long wait is over. After a 10-month wait, Tesla Cybertruck customers have started receiving access to FSD (Supervised). Release notes for the update indicate that the all-electric pickup truck also received Tesla’s highly-anticipated end-to-end highway stack.

Initial reports of the Cybertruck receiving an update with FSD were posted online this weekend. These reports were reportedly confirmed by Tesla software tracker Not A Tesla App, which noted that FSD was being released to the first batch of company employees and members of Tesla’s early access program. The update, FSD V12.5.5, came with software version 2024.32.20.

Interestingly enough, Tesla’s release notes for the Cybertruck’s FSD update noted that the all-electric pickup truck was also receiving vision-based attention monitoring with sunglasses, as well as an end-to-end highway stack. Tesla, however, highlighted in the Cybertruck’s FSD release notes that the current iteration of the system is an early access build. Thus, extra caution is required when using FSD for the all-electric pickup truck.

Following are the release notes for the Cybertruck’s FSD.

FSD (Supervised) 12 upgrades the city-streets driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300k lines of explicit C++ code.

  • Includes vision-based attention monitoring with sunglasses
  • Includes End to End on Highway

Upcoming Improvements:

  • Earlier and more natural lane change decisions
  • Improved performance in parking lots
  • Improved performance at intersections and stops
  • Introduction of Speed Profile

Note: This is an early access build. You and anyone you authorize must use additional caution and remain attentive. It does not make your vehicle autonomous. Do not become complacent.

The addition of FSD to the Cybertruck could go a long way toward making the all-electric pickup truck an even more compelling option for car buyers. FSD, after all, is arguably one of the most advanced driver-assist systems in the market today, with its capability to navigate inner-city streets generally being a cut above what any competitor can offer today. FSD also makes the Cybertruck’s premium price worth it, especially with the Foundation Series still ongoing.

The Tesla Cybertruck is currently only being offered in its Foundation Series trim, which involves a $20,000 premium over the vehicle’s price. A good part of this premium was FSD’s cost, as the advanced driver-assist system is bundled in the Foundation Series package. Tesla has released Vision-Based Park Assist, and more recently, Autopark, for the Cybertruck over the past weeks, but the addition of FSD makes the vehicle practically feature-complete.
