Eibach Multipro. Now for Mitsubishi Evo X

After months and miles of exhaustive testing, Eibach Springs used the recent SEMA show to launch their latest Multipro Coilover kit onto the European market. The latest model to benefit from the firm’s acclaimed US R&D facility is the much-modified Mitsubishi Evo X.

While coilovers have formed part of Eibach’s product line up for many years now, the new Multipro range raises the bar for the industry in terms of price, performance and componentry. Multipro uses state-of-the-art remote reservoir damping and adjustable height platforms to endow the Evo with phenomenal levels of handling, while still maintaining a compliant and comfortable ride quality. Adjusters are conveniently situated to allow the driver to quickly adapt the car to road or track use, ensuring a quick tailoring of set-up to suit driving conditions. This is race-car adjustability with road-car usability.

The kit uses lightweight aluminium construction and 10-way adjustable compression and rebound damping to provide ultimate control. The springs used are direct from Eibach’s ERS race spring range and are coupled with precision spherical upper mounts to allow perfect alignment and set-up. Track-day enthusiasts now even have the opportunity to accurately corner weight the car for sublime handling, whereas fast-road aficionados can select comfort, ultimate grip – or anything in-between.

Priced at just £2,100.00 + VAT for the entire set, Give your Evo the X factor!

Santa Pod – Run What You Brung / RWYB

In a Gatso-ridden World, Santa Pod Raceway in Northants are doing their bit to provide high-octane thrills at low-octane prices.

The internationally recognised drag-racing venue has just announced its 2009 ‘Run What You Brung’ (RWYB) programme, where mere mortals can turn up with their road car or bike, with a valid UK licence and enjoy a day’s racing under full competition conditions for a mere £35 for the entire day! No competition licence is required.

As the ultimate test of car and driver, or bike and rider, RWYB offers a real chance to settle the age-old pub debate over whose machine is quickest, or who has the greatest reaction times – and all in the total safety of an FIA approved venue. Compared to the average circuit track day at £150 – plus tyres, Santa Pod’s RWYB sessions offer petrol-heads the chance to enjoy their vehicle at the limit of its performance, without spending a fortune.

Santa Pod General Manager, David Lloyd-Jones helped to put things in perspective. ‘It’s a difficult financial climate for motorists at the moment.’ he said. ‘That’s why we will continue to drive down the cost for enthusiasts. For £35, you will get full computerised timing slips on each run, measuring your reactions, terminal speed and total quarter mile time. It’s the equivalent of having unlimited use of Silverstone, under race conditions – with all of the timing gear at your disposal, for less than the cost of half a tank of fuel, Come and enjoy yourselves in a totally safe – and legal environment’

In-keeping with the value for money theme, any additional spectators get in for just £10 and under 16s get in absolutely free. There’s even free grandstand seating for your fans to cheer you on and full shop and cafe facilities available all day. A fun, fast day out for the whole family.

Drivers with quick reactions – and an even quicker car, may want to pre-register for the RWYB Street Challenge. Here, street-legal cars battle the clock with the fastest recorded time all year taking home a cheque for £500 at the end of the season. All that fun – and they pay you too!

The first RWYB day is held on Sunday 18th January 2009. Visit www.rwyb.com for more details and the 2009 full diary.

Scorpion Exhaust for the Mazda RX8

Hard to believe, but Mazda’s superb RX8 is now 5 years old, making it the perfect base for accessible tuning. Good to hear then, that respected exhaust manufacturers Scorpion have released a high performance rear system for the rev-happy rotary.

Bolting directly to the factory centre pipe, the Scorpion system uses 2.5” precision mandrel bent tubing and optimised gas-flow characteristics to endow the couthy coupe with a 5% increase in power as well as useful improvements in driveability and sound. Construction is from T304 grade Stainless Steel throughout.

If you’re thinking the system looks familiar, you’d be right. Scorpion originally designed the box for the limited edition of 800 Prodrive-tuned PZ cars. So if it’s good enough for both them and Mazda, you can imagine that the design has undergone some comprehensive testing and evaluation before being approved. Whilst the PZ became a rare and instant classic, you can at least now create the sound and performance on any RX8 with this new system.

Best of all, the flawlessly finished tail pipe is now a 114 x 90mm oval, which is a perfect fit for the factory bumper apertures, looking far more in keeping than the original, circular system.

Priced at just £449.95 including all fittings and a limited lifetime warranty, you’d be a Wankel not to want one!
