  • PowerStation – AST Sportline for Subarus

Subaru tuning supremos PowerStation have been busy honing their suspension range for the latest Impreza models. The new 2009 AST line up offers a beautifully engineered solution for every model of the new car, offering a balance between capability, comfort – and cost!

The AST Sportline range is a traditional coil-over type unit that incorporates ride height and damper force adjustment. Although manufactured in the same factory as their race ranges, the Sportline weighs in at a fraction of the cost, making it a superb choice for the fast road or track driver that wants ultimate control, tempered by comfort and reliability. Damper rates have been carefully matched to spring rates to give a sublime package.

A 12-point adjustable damper can be quickly set by the driver, via a single knob to allow for different ambient conditions, road types or driving styles. Bump and rebound are adjusted together in one movement to allow for instant fine tuning.

The units are monotube, and are nitrogen filled to eliminate the problems of aeration found in cheaper non-gas units. Prices start at just £1195 for the ‘08 cars. PowerStation also offer a huge range of units for the older cars, going right back to 94 model year.

For those looking to spend more time on the track, the Raceline range should need no introduction. As the suspension that took PowerStation to the overall victory in the 2006 Time Attack Championships, the Raceline range boasts an impressive list of features. Each unit is height adjustable and has 3-way damper adjustment, allowing changes to both and low and high speed compression and rebound characteristics. The compression circuits are located on an externally mounted reservoir, which allows an increased level of oil capacity and higher internal nitrogen pressures to eliminate aerating. Each damper has 12 positions allowing for infinite fine tuning to tweak pitch, dive, roll balance and to allow for all weather conditions at the circuit.

With AST’s high quality top-mounts as standard, it’s no surprise that AST Raceline Dampers are the choice of many of Europe’s top race teams – and with great success. Prices start at just £3750 For the ‘08- models and again go back through the range to cater for most early models.

  • New Coilovers for VW Scirocco

The German manufacturer has just released details of its latest fitment for the much vaunted hot-hatch and couth coupe. The Pro-Street S kit uses a rust-proof stainless steel body and adjustable spring platform to give a height adjustment of between 10 and 70mm lower than stock. With damper settings and spring rates all computer matched at the factory, The Pro Street S gives a surprisingly compliant ride, even when wound down to its lowest setting.

It’s not all about creating a killer stance of course, the springs used on the Pro Street S come straight from Eibach’s race proven ERS range, endowing the car with sharper cornering response and flatter attitude through the turns. Turn-in is greatly improved, and thanks to the car’s lower centre of gravity and improved airflow, stability, braking and speed are significantly enhanced.

Priced at just £808 and £849 + VAT for the Golf and Scirocco respectively, The new Eibach kits make a big difference at an extremely sensible price.

  • Eibach Evo X Anti-Roll Kit – Flat Out – and Flat!

Mitsubishi’s latest generation Evo is a fine handling weapon straight out of the box – but suspension gurus Eibach have now made it even better. In addition to their best-selling Pro-kit spring upgrades and Multipro coilover units, the German manufacturer has now unveiled its anti-roll bar kits for the popular saloon.

Eibach’s Anti-Roll kit is very much inkeeping with its real-world ethos of everyday practicality. By using the kit’s inherent torsional strength to keep the car flatter under hard cornering than the OEM items, the Eibach upgrade allows the driver to run a more compliant spring set-up for the road, maintaining ride quality and improving cross-country ability. On track, it keeps the car flat and in control for optimum lap times.

The kit comes with all fixings and bushes required for a simple and straightforward fit. By maintaining a more even attitude in the turns, understeer is significantly reduced, thanks to the tyres maintaining a more even contact patch with the road surface.

For any driver that enjoys comfort and speed, it’s a superb modification that maintains the character and composure of the original car, with considerably improved point-to-point ability. Prices have yet to be announced, but are expected to be comparable with the rest of the Eibach range.
