Tesla’s aggressive sales tactics in Sweden seem to be bearing fruit. As per recent reports, Tesla has overtaken Volvo in September, effectively becoming the largest car brand in the country for the month. This was thanks in part to a zero-interest financing program that Tesla introduced at the start of September.
As noted in a CarUp report, new car sales in Sweden are actually in a decline. Despite this trend, figures from Swedish car database Car.info have suggested that Tesla has been swimming against the current, with the company registering 3,800 cars in September. These results represent a 12% increase year-over-year, and with a few days to spare.

The figures from Car.info suggest that Tesla has become Sweden’s largest car brand in September. For context, Volvo, saw 3,138 registrations in the same period. It should also be noted, however, that the veteran Swedish automaker still exceeds Tesla’s overall sales for the third quarter.
A notable contributor to Tesla’s strong sales in Sweden seems to be the company’s zero-interest program, which was launched in September. With the program in place, customers could see savings in their monthly payments. This makes Teslas very attractive, affordable, and well within reach of mainstream car buyers.

Tesla’s September registrations speak for themselves. As per CarUp, Tesla has registered 3,206 Model Y units in Sweden with a few days to spare in September. The Model Y is one of the vehicles that are covered by Tesla Sweden’s zero-interest program. The next-best-selling vehicle in Sweden is the Volvo XC60, which saw 1,026 registrations in the same period.
Tesla’s performance in Sweden is especially impressive considering that the company is still dealing with an ongoing strike from trade union IF Metall, as well as sympathy strikes from other unions. Despite the strikes, the Tesla Model Y still became Sweden’s most-registered vehicle in the first six months of 2024.
